 In
addition to Sunday worship, Woodlawn offers many opportunities for fellowship,
service and learning for its members and friends.
If you are looking to get involved, please consider any of the following. If
any of these look appealing and you would like more information on them, please
contact the church office at 942-8406 or email at:

Fellowship Groups
Dine with Nine:
There are no less than a dozen Dine with Nine groups operating within our
church right now.
What is dine with nine? It is a series of fellowship oriented groups designed
to build relationships within the church. At the beginning of the calendar year
people sign up for membership, and they can choose to join an adult only group,
or a children included group. Each group will have 4 or 5 households
represented, and these households will meet once each at each other’s homes for
a meal and fellowship. The group lasts for one year, so in the span of a single
year, members will build and deepen relationships with 7 or 8 other
congregation members. These groups are ideal for new members or even for people
who are not yet members.
Why dine with nine? We want singles and couples to feel welcome in these
gatherings. The odd number suggests singles and marrieds mixing together.
Movie Groups:
There are a few movie groups meeting within the congregation right
now. These groups meet every other month to talk about a movie that they’ve all
previously viewed. You don’t have to be a film major to join one of these
communities, you only need to be a person who likes to watch movies.
Stitch Group:
The stitch group meets regularly at various people’s homes to do stitch
work (and other crafts) together. Sometimes they just talk and eat. In fact,
rumor has it that some of the members don’t really know how to stitch, but
enjoy an evening with friends.
Slow-Pitch Teams:
There are two slo-pitch softball teams at Woodlawn, an over 40
team and a regular team. If you enjoy good-hearted competition, consider
joining. We play from May through August, usually on a Wednesday evening.
Service Groups
Bell Choir:
Woodlawn has a bell choir which regularly leads the congregation
in worship. If you would like to share in this service through music, contact
music director Roy Hopp through the church office.
Adult Choir:
During the school year the adult choir sings almost every Sunday morning and
rehearses almost every Wednesday night. Our choir has a long and vibrant
history at Woodlawn.
Small Groups:There are two small groups whose main emphasis is service projects of various types both in and outside the Ministry Center. Both the HamKamp group and Stob group welcome new members.
Generationally Specific Groups
Young Adults:
There is a new group of young adults (Under 35-ish, with “ish” broadly
defined), who meet a few times every year for fellowship and fun. Both singles
and marrieds are involved and welcome.
Study Groups
Book Clubs:
There are two book clubs meeting at Woodlawn right now, one on a Wednesday
night and one on a Sunday night. They meet at people’s homes or the ministry center and fellowship is
always part of the picture.
-
The Wednesday night group is comprised mostly of women, although the other
gender is welcome too! They usually meet on the last Wednesday of the month.
-
The Sunday Night book club also meets monthly at people’s homes or the ministry center. This group is
comprised of both males and females, and is also open to new members.
Wednesday Morning Bible Study:
On the second and fourth Wednesday of the month during the school year, at 9:30AM, a group of people meets
for Bible study under the leadership of Pastor Abma.
Tuesday Afternoon Bible Study
For those who can’t meet mid-morning, there is another Bible
study that meets at Tuesday Afternoon. Pastor Jonker leads this group.
Gonjes Bible Study
This is a small group that meets periodically at the mnistry center. New members are welcome.
